Research Activity
At the Marine Biology and Ecology Laboratory several ongoing activities that involve the study of biodiversity, trophic status and functioning of marine ecosystems are currently in progress. The Lab has a consolidated experience in the determination of the quantity and biochemical composition of particulate and sedimentary organic matter, the analysis of meiofaunal diversity, with a special focus on the taxonomy of marine nematodes, the analysis of ecosystem processes such as the degradation of organic matter and the prokaryotic production in both the water column and the sediment. The Lab is constantly engaged in research projects funded by various institutions (see a brief list below) and actively collaborates with numerous Italian and foreigners public and private research laboratories. The Laboratory of Marine Biology and Ecology is involved in research activities that are carried out in all the world oceans (Mediterranean, Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic and Antarctic) from intertidal ecosystems, to seagrass beds, coral reefs, the deep sea deep and the Antarctic sea ice.
