This course has a duration of two years.
A three year Degree, or an equivalent academic qualification from a foreign university is required for enrolment on the Second Level degree in Applied and Molecular Biology.
Presentation
In 2000-2001, after the activation of the new structure of the Italian University studies that provides degrees of two levels, the University Politecnica delle Marche activated two postgraduate degree courses in Industrial Biology and in Biometodologies. These latter, during the Academic Year A.A. 2006-2007, have been replaced by a single postgraduate degree course in Applied Biology that, as a result of the reorganization of courses, during the Academic Year 2013-1014 has been named Applied and Molecular Biology. Purpose of this course is the formation of high-level experts in the fields of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Genetics.
This course trains specialists in understanding the biological processes of molecular mechanism, in biological analytical methods together with their industrial and diagnostic applications.

Objectives
The primary purpose of this course is the formation of high-level experts in the fields of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Genetics. This course trains specialists in the biological processes of molecular mechanisms and biological analytical methods, together with their industrial and diagnostic applications through the study of advanced methods for the analysis of biological systems. It also gives students an understanding of the design and use of natural bioactive molecules. Our graduates in Applied and Molecular Biology will be able to manage work and/or research activities in the biological and chemical sector, and manage and coordinate activities in analytical and research laboratories.

The training activities are aimed at extending the basic knowledge of biology and its applications, with particular regard to molecular, biochemical and biotechnological applications. The relationships between molecules and between molecules and cells, both in normal and modified conditions are also studied. Graduates in Applied and Molecular Biology will be aware of the techniques that are needed in order to understand biomolecular phenomena and acquire expertise (as regards research, development and production) in the field of both applied biology and biotechnology. Lectures and practical laboratory activities will be organized for at least 30 total credits (240 hours), focused particularly on understanding biological, molecular, chemical, and biotechnological methodologies and how to analyze bioinformatic data.

The course in Applied and Molecular Biology provides graduates with professional skills for activities at executive-level, typical of technical professions concerning health and life sciences, and specialists in research and training, etc, as defined by the ISTAT classification. The course in Applied and Molecular Biology is intended to give the graduates the professional skills for activities at executive-level, typical of the technical profession concerning the health and life sciences and of the specialists in training, in research and similar. They will then have expertise in the management of autonomous microbiological, chemical and biomolecular research and they will be able to carry out managerial and coordination activities in both the analytical or industrial biologist typical profession.
